2019-2020 CUASL Executive Team Openings

We are recruiting for the 2019-2020 Executive Team! Full descriptions of each position are laid out below. Please note this year we do not require that someone else nominate you for positions you are interested in; you may fill in the application below yourself. If you feel you are a fit for the position but do not meet all the listed requirements, please apply anyways! We will include all applications we receive in the vote to select candidates.

Vice President

The Vice President will be someone who is willing and able to help the President with all of their tasks and requirements for the League. This person will ideally have at least 1 year of experience competing in the CUASL League. The Vice President will also be the Chair of the Appeals Committee and will be responsible for all communications in relation to anything submitted to the Appeals Committee.

Tasks required of the Vice President are:

  • Management of All Canadian Awards
  • Management of Anne Smeeton Award
  • General Support for President
  • Blog Updates on Website
  • Chair of Appeals Committee

Requirements for this Position

  • Min 1 Year of experience competing in the CUASL League
  • Be an eligible, registered member of the league (swimmer or coach) for the entire 2019-2020 season
  • Be a full-time student at his/her University

 

  • Vice President of Media / Marketing

The Vice President of Media / Marketing is a more time consuming position. It is recommended that the Vice President of Media / Marketing have an interest in working in the field of Marketing or Communications.

Tasks required of the Vice President of Media / Marketing are:

  • Posting on CUASL social media (Facebook and Instagram) as required throughout the season
    • More often during competition season
    • Share member universities posts
    • Share updates from the committee and blog posts
  • Answer all Direct Messages to Facebook and Instagram when appropriate
    • Direct questions to other relevant members of the committee if unable to answer
  • Manage and Update Website, Perform Maintenance (Website is hosted using WordPress)
  • Work with Photographers to get packages of photos to post on social media
  • Other duties as assigned by President

Requirements for this Position

  • Interest in Marketing / Communications
  • Business Students Preferred but not required
  • Be an eligible, registered member of the league (swimmer or coach) for the entire 2019-2020 season
  • Be a full-time student at his/her University

 

Accountant / Treasurer

The Accountant / Treasurer of the league holds a very important position within the committee. This person is required to either hold their degree or be a 3rd or 4th year accounting or finance major. This person can also be a non-student member of the league (coach) who is willing to stay on long term, or someone who was a previous eligible member of the league (as a swimmer or coach) and is willing to stay on long term.

Tasks required of the Accountant / Treasurer are:

  • Write all cheques for expenses / reimbursements
  • File annual information return with Corporations Canada in line with our official Not For Profit Organization Status
  • Create an annual budget with Coordinator
  • Produce annual statements
  • Determine grant amounts each club will receive based on earnings from the year
  • Maintain accounting records
  • Work with Coordinator to manage expenses and budget throughout the year

Requirements for this position:

  • General Accounting Knowledge
  • Hold Accounting or Finance Degree or be a 3rd or 4th year student in Accounting or Finance (minors can be accepted)
  • Have been an eligible member of the league (student or coach) in previous or future seasons

 

Appeals Committee Member (3 open positions)

Members of the appeals committee will be required to review Bye Requests and Appeals to the rules received more than 72 hours before relevant competitions. The appeals committee members will be lead by the Vice President and will be required to return to the applicant with an answer or request for more information within 72 hours. The jury will also review all issues regarding definition of Novice Swimmers as a part of the registration process, and requests for exceptions to swimmer eligibility in the league (for Novice and Experienced).

Bye Requests are more common as we near Easterns and Westerns, and Appeal Requests are less common. This is a lower involvement but very important position.

Requirements to be in this Position:

  • At least 1 year of experience competing (as a swimmer or coach) prior to application
  • AT LEAST 1 member of the committee must come from Western Provinces
  • AT LEAST 1 member of the committee must come from Eastern Provinces
  • Be an eligible, registered member of the league (swimmer or coach) for the entire 2019-2020 season
  • Be a full-time student at his/her University
